Poster printing
The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences offers an internal poster printing service, free of charge, to all its research groups.
When should you book the press?
The poster deadline is 3 working days prior to your departure, calculated from the day you leave for the convention / congress.
Example: 1: if you have to leave on Friday 11, the poster must be printed no later than Monday 7.
Example: 2: you have to leave on Monday 7, the poster must be printed no later than Tuesday 1.
How to book the service
- Make an appointment for the printing by sending an email to sistemi.informatici.dsf@uniupo.it as soon as you know of the need to print a poster
- Before the agreed date for printing, send the poster file in PowerPoint format to the personal mail of the IT technicians.
In the email containing the poster attached, it is necessary to indicate the print size required by the organizing committee of the event.
- On the day and time agreed for printing, go to the print room on the second floor of Via Bovio, where there is the communal printer, and call the Information Systems office
- During printing, check that everything is proceeding correctly, in case of problems contact the Information Systems office immediately.
FAQs
- What quality is the poster? The poster is printed in professional photo quality
- Which card is used? It is printed on instant-drying semi-gloss photographic paper, provided by the Information Systems office
- What technology does the plotter print with? An inkjet printing plotter
- Size limits: the width must be less than 90 cm, there are no length limits
- The plotter automatically cuts the poster in height, but not its right side. Therefore, after printing, you will have to do this yourself
- Can the poster be folded? Technically, yes, but given the thickness of the paper, it would remain folded even when you need to display it. For this reason, no one has ever folded it to date. The poster can be rolled up
- What happens if the plotter breaks down? You will be invited to make an appointment in a copy shop to print it "outside". In the meantime, the IT technicians will immediately take action to resolve the fault.
Tips
- The first time you open Powerpoint to start creating your poster, first set the slide with the print size indicated by the organization (the function is design / slide size / custom slide size)
- Use white background
- Think ahead about how to transport a roll that is nearly three feet high to its destination
- Find a light card or something practical in advance to protect the rolled-up poster
- Roll up the poster so that the print stays inside
- Protect the poster from water: remember that the plotter is inkjet, if wet the print will get stained
- One long side of the poster should be cut by hand: ask those who have already done this work how to proceed (generally we use ruler, square and cutter, but we have seen different methods for each group)
- It is strongly recommended to print tests the days before the poster is printed: it will help you find errors and see the proportions of images and objects. We recommend that you print your test prints in A3 format in colour. Proofs cannot be printed on the plotter
- If you have to insert images, put the original version of the file in the Powerpoint: do not use images downloaded from Internet sites with low resolution, let alone images exchanged with Whatsapp etc: these latter printed on a poster will be grainy as they lack resolution. The lack of resolution is an uncorrectable feature of the file. Without going into detail, the best print quality is obtained starting from a resolution of 300 dpi.
